I’m here at the Bebo Platform launch event at the Metreon in San Francisco. Bebo CEO is Michael Birch is presenting the Platform details:
We’ve always wanted to be open, but when Facebook launched their Platform earlier this year, it was quite comprehensive and similar to what we wanted to do. We don’t want to launch […]

After the backlash over Beacon, many news organizations are churning out stories about possible competition for Facebook. The latest story in the Telegraph suggests that LinkedIn might be about to give Facebook a run for its money.
Oh, it is to laugh. Although it’s true that LinkedIn is planning to launch a redesigned site which includes […]

Because sometimes (fluff)Friends and Human Pets aren’t enough. Sometimes you need a real pet. And, of course, a way to digitally represent your real pet on Facebook.
For you, there is Dogbook, an application that allows you to create a Profile page for your dog. Your dog gets her own friends, Wall and Mini-Feed, and while […]

Introduction
A large and growing portion of some of the most valuable demographics in America and the world are spending more of their time and attention on Facebook and less on other channels and media. Not only are US college students and teenagers fully engaged in Facebook, […]

Though Syria has officially banned Facebook access from within the country, residents can apparently get around the ban with relative ease. Our correspondent in Damascus (i.e. a friend of mine who happens to live there at present) reports that he’s been continuing to access the forbidden site via internet cafes by simply removing firewall blocks. […]

Despite all the hubbub surrounding Beacon, including several articles on this site, I did not until today really get what people were talking about. I mean, okay, I thought, if you buy something through Facebook then they’re going to notify your friends, and that sucks, but come on. Quit shopping through Facebook and you’re fine.
In […]

Facebook just pushed a feature that will be welcomed by heavy users of Facebook messaging: actually being able to view the message contents in the notification email Facebook sends to let you know that a new message has arrived.
(Annoying, however, is that while you can see the message body in the email, you still can’t […]

There has been a ton of buzz surrounding Beacon over the past couple weeks. Last night I briefly ranted about Facebook not responding to the noise. Initially, they may have perceived it as only being chatter among bloggers. As soon as I heard that brands were beginning to become hesitant about advertising on Facebook due […]

This morning, in response to the complaints from privacy advocates that have been well-documented in recent weeks, Facebook added a Beacon preference to allow users to universally opt-out of Beacon. Now, if users globally opt-out, no information sent to Facebook from Beacon partners will be retained. This means that those most concerned with their privacy […]

Mark Zuckerberg just announced on the Facebook Blog that Beacon was a mistake and more importantly, the way his company handled the situation over the last few weeks was careless. Beacon is now an optional feature for users. His post below:
“About a month ago, we released a new feature called Beacon to try to help […]

I stumbled across a rather ambitious group today: Six Degrees of Separation - The Experiment. Like the play, the movie and the popular game Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, this group’s aim is to prove that everyone is connected via a chain of no more than six people. (Not necessarily related; just connected.)
I’ve seen this […]

I don’t mean to get carried away here but seriously, what the hell is Facebook doing? I think they left for vacation a couple weeks ago. I just got back from New York and the first thing I see is an article spelling the demise of Facebook. Honestly, I see Josh’s article […]

Cubics.com, a Facebook application ad network, was acquired by Adknowledge on November 30th. An email notifying Cubics.com publishers went out earlier today. Adknowledge os the owner of BidSystem.com, “a multi-channel behavioral targeting ad network in which advertisers seemlessly bid for traffic in display, email and smaller search engines.”
While I personally haven’t heard of […]

Yesterday, Eric Eldon broke the news about the Courses application developers receiving $500,000 in funding. The funding round was lead by Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund. Peter Thiel was also the primary investor in Buddy Media during their $1.5 million round. There haven’t been many announcements about Facebook applications raising capital though over […]

Professor BJ Fogg and Dave McClure have produced results nothing short of spectacular from their Stanford Facebook class. Honestly, anybody that plans on building a business on the Facebook platform would have benefited greatly from being a student in this class. According to BJ Fogg and Dave McClure, this class has produced:
Over 10 […]
